Collection: Lemon-Aid 714

When life gives you...

Stay cool, calm and carefree, no matter what life throws at you. Lemon-Aid 714, made from lemon balm extract, ashwagandha and oleamide, supports calmness, relaxation, happiness, restful sleep and general well-being. At lower doses it enhances a peaceful state of mind, while also helping you feel happy and sociable. At higher doses it promotes a deep, restful sleep, leaving you feeling fresh and revived the following day.

Lemon-Aid 714 supports a tranquil, happy, state. It promotes a pure, still calmness, without mental fog. In fact, ashwagandha has been shown to increase motivation, attention and concentration [1], leaving you feeling calm and "in the zone."

When taken at night, it can help promote a deep, restful sleep, helping you wake up feeling fresh with a pleasant afterglow the following day. It also has adaptogenic properties. When you’re out of balance, adaptogens recalibrate your body in exactly the way it needs to reach equilibrium; meaning it can both reduce fatigue during the day and conversely promote relaxation by night [2]. It can be life changing for anyone who tends to overthink or has difficulty sleeping.

Lemon-Aid 714 contains a natural blend of lemon balm extract (150mg) combined with ashwagandha (200mg) and oleamide (100mg).

Lemon balm is a perennial herb from the mint family. The leaves, which have a zesty lemon aroma, are known for their calming effects. Numerous medical studies have indicated lemon balm helps promote calmness and improves mood [3, 4]. It is also widely used for inducing sleep. The rosmarinic acid in lemon balm inhibits GABA-transaminase (GABA-T), an enzyme that degrades GABA. GABA is a neurotransmitter which occurs naturally in our brains to promote calmness. It the chemical in our brains responsible for putting the brakes on racing thoughts, stress or worry. Lemon balm slows the GABA in your brain from being broken down, resulting in higher levels of GABA to help you maintain composure. Lemon-Aid 714 contains a highly concentrated 10:1 lemon balm extract, meaning 1g of our extract was obtained from 10g of dried leaves.

Oleamide is a natural fatty acid compound produced in the human brain from ammonia and oleic acid (found in olive oil). It also occurs naturally in the bodies of other mammals. Its natural function in the brain is to help bring about sleep. Studies have shown that it accumulates in the central nervous system prior to sleep, where it produces relaxing and sedating effects [5]. It has been shown to accumulate in the brain and spinal fluid by up to 6-fold after only a few hours of sleep deprivation [6].

Apart from aiding sleep, at lower doses, Oleamide is anecdotally consumed during the day for its perceived calming effects. Oleamide is associated with an increase in GABAergic signalling, which is thought to account for its role in maintaining a calm state of mind [7]. It also increases serotonin signalling [8]. Increased serotonin levels are associated with happiness. One preliminary study found it significantly promoted calmness in the test group [9]. Another study indicated that it has potent relaxation-promoting properties, without causing physical dependence [10].

There is also some evidence that Oleamide supplements are able to act as neuroprotective agents (protecting the brain from stress and toxins). Studies have indicated that this supplement has the ability to act as a potent bronchial dilator (increases the size of capillaries in the respiratory tract, allowing a greater flow of oxygen into the bloodstream)  [11, 12]. However, the significance of oleamide’s benefits will only be fully understood once further research becomes available.

Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb which has been used for over 3,000 years in India. Adaptogens, as the name suggests, help our bodies adapt to stress. Several controlled human studies have shown that ashwagandha can effectively reduce fatigue in times of stress, promote calmness, support a positive mood and aid restful sleep [13, 14, 15].

In a 60 day study of 64 people with a history of chronic stress, those given ashwagandha reported a 69% average improvement in calmness and sleep, compared to 11% for those who were given a placebo [13]. In the same study, those taking ashwagandha reported a 79% improvement in mood, while the placebo group reported a 10% decrease [13]. In another six week study, 88% of people given ashwagandha reported improved feelings of calmness, compared to 50% of those who were given a placebo [15].
